Care between the heat waves

Ductless Mini-Split Maintenance in Las Vegas

Desert dust collects on a mini-split’s filter faster than most homeowners expect, and a head that has been running all summer is worth a look before the next heat wave arrives.

Frosty Desert maintains ductless systems for homeowners in Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas and nearby communities. Maintenance can’t prevent every breakdown, but it gives a technician a chance to spot wear early.

Filter care you can do yourself

Most indoor heads have a washable filter behind the front panel. Checking it monthly during heavy use—and more often after windy, dusty days—is the one maintenance task homeowners can usually handle.

Turn the unit off at the remote or thermostat first, then open the panel the way the manufacturer’s instructions describe. Rinse the filter with lukewarm water, let it dry completely and slide it back. Don’t force a panel that sticks, don’t use harsh cleaners and don’t use a pressure washer anywhere on the unit.

If the head is mounted high, if the filter is sealed in, or if the instructions say the filter isn’t user-serviceable, leave it to a technician rather than climbing up to reach it.

At the visit

What a technician looks at

What’s checked can vary by system, so ask your technician to explain the visit. These are the areas a ductless check generally covers.

Don’t open the outdoor unit or handle refrigerant lines yourself—those checks belong to a technician.

  • Airflow and the filter. How much air the head is moving and what the filter looks like.
  • Coils, indoor and outdoor. How dirty the heat-exchange surfaces have gotten.
  • The drain line. Whether condensate is leaving the way it should.
  • Lines and connections. The condition of the refrigerant lines and where they connect.
  • Electrical and controls. Connections, the remote or thermostat and how the system responds.
  • The outdoor unit’s surroundings. Clearance, debris and anything blocking airflow.

When maintenance isn’t the right booking

If the system is already dripping water, icing up, making a new noise or blowing warm air, that’s a repair, not a routine check. Tell us what’s happening when you book so the right kind of visit gets scheduled.

And if the unit runs but the room never gets comfortable, say so—a maintenance visit is a good time to talk about whether the system is right for the room.

Questions to ask at your visit

What did you check?

Ask the technician to walk you through what they looked at and what they found.

Anything to watch?

Ask about wear that may need attention later so you can plan for it.

How often should I schedule?

Ask what service frequency makes sense for your system and how you use it.

Am I doing the filter right?

Confirm how often to check it and how to clean or replace it for your model.
