Before the heat arrives

Air Conditioner Maintenance in Las Vegas

The best time to find out your AC needs attention is before the first 105-degree week—not during it. A maintenance visit gives a technician a chance to look the system over while you still have time to plan.

Frosty Desert maintains air conditioners for homeowners in Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas and nearby communities. Maintenance can’t prevent every breakdown, but it can catch wear early.

Plan around the season

Spring is a popular time to schedule because the system can be checked before it starts running hard. Calling early can also make it easier to find a time that works for you.

Follow your equipment manufacturer’s guidance on service frequency, and ask your technician what makes sense for your system and how you use it.

Safe filter habits

Dust and blowing sand can load up filters faster than you might expect. Checking your filter is one of the few maintenance tasks homeowners can do themselves.

If your filter is in an attic, on the roof or hard to reach, ask a technician to handle it.

  • Check regularly. Look at the filter monthly during heavy use, and more often after windy, dusty days.
  • Use the right size. Match the dimensions printed on the existing filter’s frame.
  • Mind the arrow. Install the filter with the airflow arrow pointing the direction shown on the frame.
  • Turn the system off first. Switch it off at the thermostat before you change the filter.
  • Stay safe. Only change filters you can reach without climbing into an attic or onto a roof.

Care around outdoor equipment

Keep plants, weeds and stored items clear of the outdoor unit so air can move freely. Rinse off loose dust only if your manufacturer allows it, and never with high pressure.

The electrical disconnect near the unit is for service. Leave it, and the inside of the unit, to a technician. Keeping the area clear also makes it easier and safer for a technician to work.

If your system is on the roof

Many Las Vegas homes have rooftop packaged units, where the cooling equipment sits in one cabinet on the roof. They take the full force of the sun and dust.

Rooftop equipment should be serviced by a technician. Don’t climb onto the roof to check it yourself—tell us where your equipment is when you book.
